Martin Luther King Jr

Martin Luther King Jr

On August 26, 1963, one man stood up and began to speak at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. The speech was called “I Have a Dream,” it was so powerful that it touched every soul watching him live. He spoke about the injustice towards the African American population, how they were unjustly segregated by the Constitution and the people even though they were men with freedom since the liberation declared by former president Abraham Lincoln.

As a civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr. showed his courage. He exposed the harsh reality forced on the African American population, knowing that he was risking his life and safety due to his speech. Due to his courage, the United States of America was able to take one step toward the land of equality. Every year, Martin Luther King’s Day is celebrated in January to commemorate his works and sacrifice. Even after his death, his works will always be remembered by people, nations, and the world.

“I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted,

every hill and mountain shall be made low; the rough places will be made plain,

and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,

and all flesh shall see it together.”

part of the “I Have a Dream” speech by Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
