Meet Mr. Rocha, a new addition to the Providence Catholic staff for the 2024-25 school year. Coming from Wheaton College, he is currently the band director. Recently, he shared his thoughts on the following questions with the Providence community:
What has been the most surprising part of your job so far, and what has been your favorite part of working at Providence?
The most surprising part, as well as my favorite part of working at Providence, has been the incredible community of staff, students, and parents who have made my transition into Providence so smooth. I have been so blessed by a faculty community that has supported me in many ways, students who make me genuinely look forward to coming into school every day, and parents who have shown me patience, grace, respect, and gratitude from the very start.
If you weren’t a band director, what job would you want to have?
In another universe I think it would be really fun to be a chef – there is no way that I could do a desk job and I enjoyed working at a restaurant in high school and college.
What unique insights has becoming a band director right out of college given you?
I have learned (and am still learning) that it is important to ask for help when I need it. Galatians 6:2 says “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.” God designed us to support one another, and important part of community is letting others support you as well.
Do you have any advice for Providence students?
My advice would be to find ways notice God working in small ways throughout your daily life. It makes every day better. James 4:8 “Draw near to God and God will draw near to you.”
If you see Mr. Rocha in the halls, be sure to say hi. Welcome to Providence, Mr. Rocha!
