As the seniors’ college application adventures come to a close, it’s time for the juniors to get started. Recently, seniors Marisol Kasper, Sophia Leverett, Laurel Murach, and Will Sullivan shared their advice on how to make it through.
Sophia cautions all juniors not to be caught off guard with due dates and essays. She says that it may seem like there is time, but the work can quickly pile up by senior year. Laurel agrees, and she suggests that juniors start keeping track of activities, service hours, and any other information that may be important for a specific major now. However, she and Will also say not to worry about how quickly others get their applications done during senior year. Laurel considers the application process as “something that you have to take at your own pace.” Will specifically says to not spend too much time worrying about having every application submitted for early action and that it is perfectly fine to submit some applications as regular decision.
The seniors also shared some of the things they thought about when applying to colleges. Marisol asked questions about “how many students live on campus/how many go home on the weekends, safety protocols, housing availability after freshman year, and clubs, Greek life, and sports.” Meanwhile, Sophia asked questions more tailored towards her intended major in Fine Arts. She asked, “How do you challenge your students to honor their individuality in an industry that wants a cookie cutter ensemble?” Every senior, though, expressed the importance of enjoying senior year and not being afraid of taking chances. In Will’s words, “Stress is going to be unavoidable during this process. It is, after all, a pretty big deal, but remember that it is all going to work out.”
