The Providence Catholic Scholastic Bowl Team has proven itself worthy of recognition this 2024-2025 season. The team showed resilience and determination during every match. The team consisted of Captain Katherine Timm, Co-Captain Michael Jensen, Michael Giacomo, Grady Smith, Daniel Shusharin, Charlie Murach, and Charlie Shafer, and was coached by Mr. Austrums.
The team made it to the Homewood-Flossmore Regional Tournament in the IHSA Class 2A Scholastic Bowl league. The first match Providence Catholic played was Thornwood. Providence showed their incredible skills and won the match 780 – 10. In their second match, Providence versed Evergreen Park. Providence won 500 – 200. Providence made it to the final match against Homewood-Flossmore, and this match was to determine who would go to sectionals. The match was very competitive, but Providence won 470 – 330, securing their first regional title in six years.
This qualified Providence Catholic for the Frankfort (Lincoln-Way East) Sectional. This sectional included many difficult schools for Providence to go up against. In their first match, Providence faced Sandburg. Providence lost 250 – 620. In their second match, Providence faced Lincoln-Way East and lost 270 – 470. In their final match, Providence versed Lincoln-Way Central. Even after a discouraging day with two losses, Providence hung on and beat Lincoln-Way central 370 – 360 in a very close match.
Ultimately, the Providence Catholic Scholastic Bowl team had a great, successful, and eventful season.
A special congratulations to Katherine Timm and Michael Giacomo for their final season on the team. They are both seniors and have been on the team for four years.
