Under the sea, Provi Theatre is making it as clear as H2O that they have a whale of talent. From April 3 through 6, their run of Disney’s The Little Mermaid is energetic, exciting, and heartfelt. Starring Cassidy Lloyd as Ariel, Sophia Leverett as Ursula, and Cooper Ores as Prince Eric, the show follows the mermaid princess Ariel as she sells her voice to Ursula for the chance to walk on land and get Eric to fall in love with her. Featuring such songs as “Under the Sea” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” the show displayed the talents of the cast, crew, and pit to their fullest. In every beautiful set piece, hilarious one-liner, and perfect note, the audience became more and more invested in Ariel’s journey and thrilled with the sheer charm of the performances.
Theatre director Dr. Eckert writes about the show, “There are numerous life lessons to be realized in The Little Mermaid,” such as the need to avoid prejudice and instead live by the Golden Rule. “It has been a joy teaching [the students] and helping them to discover and develop their potential,” Eckert writes. Theatre president Sophia Leverett adds, “Theatre has been a place of refuge: from schoolwork, hate, pressure. It helped me understand and embrace myself in all forms and realities.” However, there is also lots of time for fun. Leverett notes that her favorite memory of this show was sneaking a paper fan onstage on closing night and surprising Ariel!
Congratulations on a fantastic performance, Provi Theatre!
