Charlie Celtic, staff writer

Hi everyone, my name is Ryan Gade and I am a proud Senior of Providence Catholic’s class of 2023. Among my many extracurriculars, I am also a member of Boy Scout Troop 270 of Frankfort, and am currently working on my Eagle Scout Project, which is the “Follow Me” Cross!
The “Follow Me” Cross has been a staple of our school’s history since it’s construction in 1973, almost 50 years ago. Through its many years out facing Rt. 30 (Lincoln Hwy), the cross and brick wall have both become deteriorated, with its landscaping now far overgrown. My goal is to fully re-tuckpoint all of the bricks in its pedestal, as some are cracked and needing repair. On top of this, I will also be restoring the metal and wood used within the cross itself, as well as fully replacing the landscaping! The reason I decided to take on this project is because of its importance to me. For the past 3 years, Providence has shown me how to always improve upon myself and to strive for something greater. The sense of community within the school’s values of Truth, Unity, and Love have shaped me into who I am today, which I am eternally grateful for. As such, I knew that for my Eagle Project, I would need to find something that would truly allow me to show my gratitude to my school, which I believe this project does. In its 50 years of history, it has become an iconic staple of our school, and those involved with it, making it an ideal choice for me to show my passion for PCHS, by restoring it in entirety. In addition to bringing the cross back to its former glory, those who donate $250 or more will be commemorated into PCHS history and receive their name or business on a bronze plaque to be displayed permanently next to the finished project! It should also be noted that donations of any size are greatly appreciated, as we need as much financial backing as possible!

This project is extremely extensive and demanding, requiring as much help as possible. Please let me know with any questions you might have as I am fully committed and honored to restore this timeless piece of Providence History — GO CELTICS!!!

Thank you for your support!
