The Providence Catholic Girls Soccer Program proves that a team’s true strength is built from their unity. Our team’s chemistry roots on and off the field and grows through different team bonding activities. By simply hanging out and helping others, we turned ourselves from a group of players into a real family.
The Girls Varsity Soccer team has helped the community by volunteering at multiple non-profit organizations. During tournaments that require a night stay, Providence’s head coach, Mike Taylor, requires that the girls spend their time giving back to the community. This past March, we volunteered at United Way Adams County in Quincy, Illinois. Some of the girls wrote letters to United Way’s supporting donors and thanked them for their contributions. The other girls organized United Way’s closet, which had been a mess for a long time. The Girl’s Soccer team, through only a couple hours of service, saved the United Way staff three months of work.
At another away tournament in April, the Lady Celtics Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Springfield, Illinois. In Springfield, we spent our morning volunteering at Kumler Outreach Ministries. To give background information, Kumler Outreach Ministries is a food pantry that dedicates themselves to feeding the hungry and caring for the sick. The girls split up and worked on different tasks. A few went into the Baby Closet to sort out baby food and baby clothes. The others sorted food cans, organized pantry shelves, and folded cardboard boxes for recycling. This experience at Kumler Outreach Ministry provided support for the Springfield community and reinforced the core values of Providence Catholic.
Beyond community service, the Celtic Soccer ladies used their downtime for pure fun to build their team chemistry further. A major highlight was a trip to Malibu Jack’s Indoor Theme Park, where the players raced go-karts, played arcade games, and challenged each other in a game of laser tag. These moments allowed us girls to build genuine, lifelong friendships. We can see each other as more than just teammates, which proves how the Providence Catholic Girls Soccer Program’s true strength is because of their unity. By balancing hard work on the field, meaningful service in the community, and unforgettable Malibu Jack’s fun, the Lady Celtics transformed from a group of athletes into an inseparable family.
