Research paper season serves as an incredibly stressful time for many students. There are so many rules that must be followed, and it can all seem very overwhelming. But do not fret, we have taken the time to interview our fellow sophomores to give you some tips and tricks on how to get through it. The first three sophomores, Bailey Ortiz, Sarah Galka, and Mary Piko, are in English 2 Honors. The last two sophomores, Gabby Tylka and Leah Reyes, are in English 2. With insights from both honors and standard English classes, these strategies should help you navigate research paper season with confidence and success.
To start, Bailey Ortiz said she would encourage students to choose a topic they genuinely care about and to familiarize themselves with it beforehand, as that makes the process much easier. Sarah Galka shared that staying organized is the key to making the writing process easier. Taking the time to organize notes properly will make writing the final paper less stressful. Mary Piko advised students to gather more notes than they initially think they need. By ensuring sources have valuable information, students can avoid struggling later when trying to fully support their ideas. Leah Reyes explained that the best advice is to stay on top of deadlines and avoid procrastination because falling behind can make the research process much more overwhelming. Finally, Gabby Tylka highlighted the importance of receiving feedback from peers. If she could give just one piece of advice, Gabby would tell students to never give up.
In the end, research paper season is challenging, but it’s also manageable with the right approach. Choosing a topic you care about, keeping your notes organized, gathering strong sources, meeting deadlines, and accepting feedback can make a huge difference. By following the advice of these sophomores, you can approach your research paper with confidence and finish the season feeling accomplished rather than overwhelmed.
