Stepping into the 2025 Homecoming season, a new era of trends has been brought about. Although there were many muted colors like gray and tan, and the trend of tight dresses remains prevalent, there was an increase in flowy and dramatic skirts with bold, eccentric colors. Last Homecoming, as the Providence Catholic theme was “The Great Gatsby”, a 1920s-esque style that encouraged drooped gems across fringed hems of neutral colors, there was an increase of flashy and flamboyant looks. Now, in 2025, this trend has continued, as brighter colors are seen more frequently.
The shining star of the 2024 color palette was black, gray, and tan. However, that is most certainly not true for 2025. Bright blues, blush pinks, and soft yellows dominated the court and replaced the muted colors seen only a year before. This dramatic shift may have had something to do with the theme—“A Night in the City”—which called for bright, theatric flair that only such colors could deliver. Overall, the decrease in plain colors could mean bolder choices for future dancers and an increase in individuality within color palettes.
At the 2025 Homecoming dance, it appeared to have a style similar to that of 2010. Many students were seen wearing corsets; specifically, the figure-8 corset cutout. Compared to 2024, there has been an augmentation of popularity in layered dresses, strapless dresses, and spaghetti strapped dresses. Poofy skirts also seemed to be a new trend for this year’s Homecoming.
Last year, many dresses used more simplistic and undefined materials, like artificial fabrics similar to and including polyester. However, due to a declining popularity in fast fashion brands, there has been a shift toward high quality materials like cotton, silk, and even some velvet. Sheer fabrics were also seen often, particularly in the bodices or used as design elements within the skirts. Glitter, sequins, and rhinestones were seen in surplus amounts on practically every dress. Every dress this season was nothing other than showstopping.
In conclusion, this year saw an upgrade in style, elegance, and individuality, incorporating stunning colors, chic styles, and distinctive materials into the general design and scheme of each dress. Hopefully, Providence Catholic High School will use this as an opportunity to promote everyone’s differences in style and aesthetics in a helpful way that will continue to progress with time.
