Providence welcomes our very own social worker, Mrs. Synder! Mrs. Synder has a background in veterinary medicine and has many pets at home, including dogs, fish, a tortoise, and a three-and-a-half-foot yellow ball python! On top of this, she also has three kids, two of whom are on the spectrum, which inspired her to become a social worker. When asked, “Why did you decide to go into social work?” She said, “My daughter had a lot of dysregulation issues, and still does a little bit, but she’s come a long way. I’ve always thought about going back to school and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go into education or social work, and then my daughter’s social worker saved us. She understood my daughter when a lot of people didn’t get her. She’s intelligent, but then she kind of collapses under pressure, shuts down or acts out, and people don’t get that. The difference the social worker made in my daughter’s life was a difference I wanted to be able to make for other people’s kids and try to connect with the kids in different ways. So that’s really what made me go back to school and go into social work.” Besides spending time here at Providence, Mrs. Snyder says she loves to spend time outdoors whether it be hiking in the forest preserve by her house or traveling around the world to places like Ireland and Italy. Mrs. Synder wants everyone to know they are always welcome in her office, and she would love to get to know you!
