Music Poll With the Sacristans

All-school mass is a crucial part of life here at Providence Catholic, and one of the aspects that makes the experience is the music played. Throughout history, music has brought people together for worship and celebration. It’s something that goes beyond words. Music is a language all can understand. Here at Providence, an exceptional group of students called Sacristans take special care to plan, set up, run, and clean up mass. These students have a unique experience regarding school masses, which also means they have a unique view of the music played.

Therefore, Proviscope ran a poll asking Providence’s Sacristans this question: “What song would you like to be played at mass?”

The students’ favorite song at mass is “We Are One Body” by Dana Rosemary Scallon. Five of the eleven respondents answered that this song was what they wanted to hear, and the rest of the school reflected this idea. Sophomore Meghan Connelly says, “Everybody comes together to sing this song.” Students seemed more energetic playing this song and enjoyed clapping to the beat. The Sacristans mentioned several other pieces in this poll, some of which are: “I Can Only Imagine,” “All the People Said Amen,” and “Restless.”

Providence Catholic’s faith-filled community will continue to grow as we appreciate new music and enjoy old favorites. What songs do you hope to hear in the next all-school mass?
